History
Another of the simple two-story frame homes typical of the early statehood area was built on this lot in 1905 and 1906. Several families occupied the home for the next four decades, when it was purchased by Dr. Lelia Andrews, who razed the original structure and built this post-war, modified English cottage home in 1946.
Dr. Andrews was born August 14th, 1876, in North Manchester, Indiana. She received her medical degree from Northwestern University in 1900 and opened a practice in North Manchester. She later moved to Oklahoma City in 1908 to open a general practice. She became an instructor in pediatrics at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in 1910 and an associate professor in 1915, serving in that position until 1925. She was one of the first two women admitted to the American College of Physicians in 1920. Andrews also worked at St. Anthony’s, Wesley, and University hospitals. Dr. Andrews died in her home on April 28, 1954, at the age of 77.
In 1981 the home was purchased by Barb and Michael Mize who raised two daughters in the home, Lauren and Bethany. Barb grew up in Oreland, Pennsylvania and graduated from Upper Dublin High School and Allegheny College. Mike grew up in Independence, Ohio and graduated from Independence High School and Allegheny College.
