History

This Victorian era creation with intersecting Gables, classical motifs, and a strong vertical emphasis was inspired by Gothic architecture.

It was built in 1906 by Mrs. Joseph Peebles, who rented it immediately to Mr. Charles Scott, manager of an independent grain wholesaler. Since then, it has been sold or rented to numerous families, including Jacques Dur, owner of the Capital Steel and Iron Company, and John Henry Frederickson, an engineer and builder for many Oklahoma landmarks.

Frederickson was born December 5th, 1867, in Illinois. A graduate of the University of Illinois Engineering School in 1891, Frederickson came to Oklahoma in 1915 and built the State Capitol. Other accomplishments include the construction of the Idaho and Utah state capitol buildings and the Masonic temples in Guthrie and McAlester. In Oklahoma City he also built the YWCA, the Mid-Continent Life Building, and the Oklahoma Gas & Electric Building. Frederickson died March 20, 1945, at the age of 77. Services were at St. Paul’s Cathedral with burial at Fairlawn Cemetery.

In the 1970s Sandra Kraus and her children, Kelli and Aaron, lived in the home.
