History
The Mediterranean style home built in 1933 features arched windows, arched doorways, a 12-foot ceiling in the living room, curved wall and ceiling moldings, and beautiful beveled glass panes in many of the doors.
The first owner was Thomas Lee Ward, president of a large road construction company.
Dr. Austin and Lucy Bell lived in the home in the 1960s. Austin was born in Hopkinsville, Kentucky on September 30, 1904. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and received his doctorate from Vanderbilt University. Dr. Bell practiced medicine in Oklahoma City for more than 25 years associated with the Oklahoma City Clinic and Wesley Hospital. He was also a Clinical Professor of Surgery at the OU Medical School. After retiring he taught at the Shiraz Medical School in Iran and served as Chief of Surgery at the hospital there.
Lucy Boylan Bell was born September 22, 1904, in Trenton, Missouri, and graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with a B.S. in nursing in 1928. Austin and Lucy married in 1929 and had five children. Austin and Lucy had four children, Austin, Jr., Charles Douglas, David, Martha, and Emily. Austin died February 23, 1985, at age 80. Lucy died October 11, 2004, at age 100.
Mr. and Mrs. David Bridges owned the house from 1961 to 1973. The Bridges featured their home on the 1973 Home Tour.
Martin and Mary Lou Stringer purchased the home in 1974. They had three children, Stephen and Gregory Wagoner, and Nichole Stringer.
